Collection of donations

In the collection phase, donor and donation data, identity of the operator assisting the collection, the weight of the bag are identified. The blood bags are equipped with RFID TAG labels while maintaining the traditional bar codes that were already present.
RFID technology allows you to associate additional information on the history of the bag, increasing safety and reducing processing time.
The bags of blood or blood components, as well as the associated tubes, are then placed inside special thermal containers and sent to the centers where they will be processed and validated.

Blood bags transport

A TLog RFID datalogger is placed in each container, equipped with a temperature sensor, which uniquely associated with the load is activated to record all the temperatures of the content during transport.

The RFID TLog during transport records the temperatures to which the units of blood and blood components are subjected during the movement. The “fully loaded” transport container must maintain different storage temperature ranges for the various types of blood components (-30 ± 5 ° C plasma, 4 ± 2 ° C red blood cells, 22 ± 2 ° C platelets).

Each container is associated with a sensor that allows you to check that the units of blood and blood components during the movements always respect the temperature ranges provided for by the legislation.

Processing phase

The blood components red blood cells, platelets, platelet concentrates from apheresis, undergo further filtration processes, irradiation, washing, microbiological inactivation, validation, each of which is traced with RFID readings / writes.
The storage of blood components takes place in computerized “refrigerator-blood banks” and “platelets” (incubator and agitator of platelet bags) equipped with RFID technology for the identification and traceability of blood components.

Transfusion phase

Finally, in the transfusion, the operator and the recipient are identified, the latter through an identification bracelet with RFID bars read by dual portable devices with connection to the transfusion information system.
The transfusion is verified by reading the RFID of the patient’s bracelet and bag for a congruity check.
The H2 Reader display will show the matching (OK, error), the patient name and the bag data – CHECK AT THE PATIENT BED.
In case of problems with the RFID TAG the H2 Reader will read the barcode.
