PNRR: RAISE Project
MOLIRIS – Autonomous Robot for Building Inspection in Pre- and Post-Earthquake Scenarios
AUTONOMOUS MOBILE ROBOTS FOR
THE EXPLORATION AND MONITORING
OF EARTHQUAKE-DAMAGED BUILDINGS
The RAISE Project
The RAISE – Robotics and AI for Socio-economic Empowerment project is one of the 11 Innovation Ecosystems funded by the European Union through the NextGenerationEU programme.
PNRR MUR – M4C2 – Investment 1.5 – “Innovation Ecosystems” Call.
RAISE promotes the development of advanced technologies based on robotics and artificial intelligence, with particular attention to ecorobotics: an approach combining ecology and engineering, where robotic systems become operational tools for monitoring, protecting and sustainably managing the environment and critical infrastructures.
The project fosters collaboration between universities, research centres and companies to develop innovative technological solutions capable of improving infrastructure safety, environmental monitoring and natural risk management.
Info Solution’s Role
Within Spoke 3, dedicated to technologies for environmental protection and infrastructure monitoring, Info Solution contributes to the development of autonomous robotics systems through four technological products:
Product 2.1 – Autonomous robot for monitoring critical infrastructures
Product 3.3 – Autonomous robot for inspection of buildings in pre- and post-earthquake scenarios
Product 5.4 – Autonomous robot for precision agriculture applications in vineyards
Product 5.9 – MOLIRIS autonomous navigation kit for mobile robots
Product 3.3 – Post-Seismic Robotic Inspection
The project focuses on the development of robotic systems capable of exploring buildings and infrastructures before and after an earthquake, even in the presence of debris or structural damage that makes the environment difficult or unsafe for human access.
The objective is to support engineers and researchers in the monitoring of structural integrity, enabling both emergency response activities and periodic preventive inspections.
Using ground robots and aerial drones, the system can collect data for 3D reconstruction of buildings, detect cracks or structural deformations and monitor their evolution over time.
Info Solution’s Contribution: Autonomous Navigation in Critical Environments
Within Product 3.3, Info Solution applied its MOLIRIS autonomous navigation platform to the development of a tracked rover capable of operating in complex post-seismic environments.
The ground robot is designed to move safely inside buildings that are damaged or partially obstructed by debris, rubble and openings in the floor, detecting both positive obstacles (walls, objects, debris) and negative obstacles such as voids or structural collapses.
Thanks to the integration of LiDAR sensors and advanced localisation and path-planning algorithms, the rover can operate autonomously even in environments without GNSS/GPS coverage, supporting autonomous inspection operations.
The robot can also host high-precision 3D laser scanners for digital surveying and three-dimensional reconstruction of building structures.
Collaborations and Complementary Technologies
The project integrates several robotic technologies developed by the project partners:
University of Genoa (UniGE)
Development of data acquisition and processing systems based on drones and LiDAR sensors for analysing the structural integrity of buildings.
IIT – Dynamic Legged Systems (DLS)
Development of a quadruped robot designed to operate in the most heavily damaged areas that are difficult to reach with ground rovers.
ETT Solutions
Development of a software platform for data visualisation and analysis, integrating information collected by the different robotic systems.
Project Benefits
